Mangupura, October 17, 2024 – PT Angkasa Pura Indonesia’s I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport closed the third quarter of 2024 with highly positive performance. By the end of September, the airport had served 17.98 million passengers, marking a 14 percent increase compared to 15.8 million passengers during the same period last year. The airport is targeting 23.6 million passengers by the end of 2024.
General Manager of I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport, Ahmad Syaugi Shahab, explained that passenger traffic in Q3 was the highest compared to previous quarters. Between January and March (Q1), the airport handled 5.2 million passengers, while in April–June (Q2) it recorded 6 million passengers. “From July to September, the figure rose to 6.7 million passengers. So the trend shows consistent quarterly growth. From a total of 17.98 million passengers in the past nine months, on average we served 1.9 million passengers per month or 65,000 passengers per day,” Syaugi elaborated.
He added that international travelers continued to dominate overall passenger traffic. “As a world-class tourism destination, Bali’s Ngurah Rai International Airport is still primarily serving international routes, with 10.5 million passengers, or 59 percent of the total, while 7.4 million passengers, or 41 percent, were domestic,” he noted.
In addition to passenger growth, the number of aircraft movements also increased by 5 percent, from 101,151 movements in Q3 2023 to 105,979 movements in 2024. Similar to passenger trends, international flights slightly outnumbered domestic ones, with 53,567 international aircraft movements compared to 52,412 domestic.
Breaking down international routes, Singapore ranked highest with 9,825 movements, followed by Kuala Lumpur with 8,178, and Perth with 5,378. Domestically, Jakarta (Soekarno-Hatta and Halim Perdanakusuma airports) led with 22,424 aircraft movements, followed by Surabaya with 6,546, and Lombok with 3,114.
From January to September 2024, cargo services also recorded strong performance, handling more than 72,000 tons. This consisted of 49,109 tons of international cargo and 22,934 tons of domestic cargo. International cargo saw an exceptional surge of 114 percent compared to 22,957 tons during the same period in 2023, while domestic cargo rose 14 percent from last year’s 20,147 tons.
According to Syaugi, Q3 operational performance reflects a strong post-pandemic recovery. “Overall, operations are nearly back to pre-pandemic conditions, and we will continue to push for further growth,” he stated.
In line with the continued increase in passenger traffic, PT Angkasa Pura Indonesia remains committed to prioritizing passenger comfort. “We are currently optimizing airport facilities, including expanding access roads inside and outside the airport, reorganizing terminal layouts, enhancing digital-based operations, and improving passenger flow for greater safety and comfort. One of the results already in place is the new pedestrian bridge at the domestic arrivals terminal, providing passengers easier access to parking facilities and pick-up areas,” Syaugi concluded.
