kembali ke listMangupura, March 19, 2025 – Ahead of the 2025/1446 Hijriah Eid al-Fitr holiday, PT Angkasa Pura Indonesia has prepared a series of measures to anticipate the increase in passenger and flight traffic at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport. One of the key strategies is the establishment of a Lebaran Transport Monitoring Post, which will oversee all operational and service activities throughout the peak period.
To ensure the readiness of the monitoring post, the airport management held an Airport Security Committee (ASC) meeting attended by all airport stakeholders. This meeting was aimed at strengthening collaboration to guarantee safety and security during the Lebaran transport period. In total, 912 security personnel will be deployed, consisting of airport security officers, operational support personnel (BKO) from the Indonesian Air Force, Ngurah Rai Airport Police, and Pecalang from Tuban Traditional Village.
General Manager of I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport, Ahmad Syaugi Shahab, explained that this year’s monitoring post will operate for an extended period.
“We will activate the monitoring post for 22 consecutive days, from March 21 to April 11, 2025, operating 24 hours daily,” Syaugi stated.
He added that the airport’s focus extends beyond security.
“We are working closely, both internally and with stakeholders, to ensure that facilities, infrastructure, human resources, workflows, and communication channels across agencies are well-prepared and running smoothly,” he said.
“Previously, all stakeholders successfully managed the Christmas and New Year (Nataru) transport season. We are optimistic that this year’s Lebaran operations will also run safely and smoothly,” he added.
Further preparations include adjustments to slot times and airport operating hours, rescheduling of non-essential works that could affect operations during peak season, and tactical plans for managing vehicle congestion in and out of the airport.
“For traffic flow management, we will be fully supported by Ngurah Rai Airport BKO. A dedicated communication channel has also been set up with all relevant agencies, including Bali Police Traffic Directorate, the Bali Regional Transportation Authority (BPTD), Bali Provincial Transportation Office, and Jasa Marga Bali Toll,” Syaugi explained.
During the 22-day monitoring period, passenger traffic is projected to increase by 4.5% to 1.5 million passengers, while flight movements are expected to grow by 5.6% to 9,000 flights.
As of Tuesday (March 18), the airport has received 401 additional flight requests (extra flights) for the March 21 – April 11 period from seven airlines: Lion Air, Super Air Jet, Wings Air, Garuda Indonesia, NAM Air, Trans Nusa, and Pelita Air. These additional services will connect Bali with several destinations including Surabaya, Jakarta, Makassar, Semarang, Lombok, Timika, Pontianak, Sorong, and Yogyakarta.
What makes this year unique is that the Lebaran period coincides with Nyepi (Balinese Day of Silence), Saka New Year 1947.
“In the midst of the increased traffic, we will also observe Nyepi, during which all airport flight operations will be temporarily suspended, starting from March 29, 2025 at 06:00 WITA until March 30, 2025 at 06:00 WITA. However, standby personnel will remain on duty to handle any emergency service requests,” Syaugi clarified.
As of now, passenger movements at the airport remain relatively stable, with no significant increase due to March being within the Ramadan low season. Average daily passenger numbers over the past three weeks have been lower compared to the previous month. Traffic is expected to rise starting March 22, 2025, in line with the beginning of school holidays and the implementation of the government’s Work From Anywhere (WFA) policy.
